Two horses whose stretch duel became an international Internet sensation are headed for a rematch. Mywifenosevrything and Thewifedoesntknow both are entered in Sunday's eighth race at Monmouth Park. Their first meeting on Aug. 22 produced a stretch call for the ages by track announcer Larry Collmus: "Mywifenosevrything.
J P's Gusto wins feature on final day at Del Mar (AP)
J P's Gusto beat Jaycito by four lengths Wednesday in the $250,000 Del Mar Futurity on the final day of the track's summer season. Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, J P's Gusto ran 7 furlongs in 1:22.95 and paid $3.60, $3 and $2.40. Jaycito, a 19-1 long shot, returned $14 and $7.80, while Riveting Reason ($4.60) and Indian River ($2.40) finished in a deadheat for third.
Ky. approves random drug testing on race horses (AP)
Kentucky horse racing officials have extended the state's power to drug test horses, passing a measure on Tuesday that will allow them to test any horse eligible to race in the Bluegrass anywhere at any time. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission unanimously approved an aggressive random testing measure on Tuesday in hopes of further curbing blood doping and drug use in the sport.
Pursue A Dream wins Remington's top turf race (AP)
Pursue A Dream rode the rail and led from wire to wire Monday to win the $125,000 DeBartolo Memorial Breeders' Cup, the most lucrative turf race of Remington Park's thoroughbred season. The 5-year-old gelding bred in Kentucky took the lead a few strides from the start on his way to a seventh win in 37 starts.
Mr Piloto wins All American Futurity (AP)
In the second-closest finish to an All American Futurity in its 52 years, long shot Mr Piloto beat JLS Mr Bigtime by a nose and Dominyun by a neck. The only time the 440-yard race has a closer finish was in 1972 when the top four horses were each a nose apart in the race won by Possumjet. It was the first All American win for jockey Esgar Ramirez and trainer Felipe Quintero.
One More Laugh wins $300,000 Cane Pace (AP)
One More Laugh set a course record while rolling to a wire-to-wire win in the $300,000 Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway on Monday, beating Rockin Image by 4 lengths. Driven by Tim Tetrick and trained by Ray Schnittker, the gelding started from the rail and covered the mile in 1:50.3 to win the opening leg of pacing's Triple Crown for 3-year-olds.
R Heat Lightning wins Spinaway Stakes (AP)
R Heat Lightning and jockey Garrett Gomes took control late and went on to win by four lengths in Sunday's $250,000 Spinaway Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course. R Heat Lightning, one of four Spinaway starters trained by Todd Pletcher, ran seven furlongs in 1:25.29 for her second win in three starts and first Grade 1 title.
Get Serious sets Monmouth Park turf record (AP)
Get Serious broke his own turf course record in winning the $200,000 Red Bank Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday, beating Nownownow by a neck. Ridden by Pablo Fragoso and trained by John Forbes, the 6-year old gelding covered the mile on the firm course in 1:32.37, besting the 1:32.70 mark he set in July 2009.
Quality Road cruises to victory in Woodward (AP)
Heavily favored Quality Road drew away in the stretch and cruised to a 4 3/4 -length victory in the $750,000 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday. The Todd Pletcher-trained Quality Road, a 3-10 favorite ridden by John Velazquez, ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:50 and earned $450,000 for owner Edward P.
Desormeaux off mounts with hairline fracture (AP)
Jockey Kent Desormeaux has a hairline fracture of a vertebra in his neck and is off his mounts at Saratoga Race Course. Desormeaux was consulting with doctors on Saturday, a day after he was thrown in Friday's second race when 2-year-old Forest Whip suffered a fatal heart attack in the stretch. Desormeaux walked without assistance to an ambulance after the fall and was fitted with a neck brace...
