Christina McHale won in straight sets for the second straight day, beating Darya Kustova 6-0, 6-1 to put the United States ahead 4-0 against Belarus in Fed Cup play Sunday. The Americans had a chance to complete a shutout in Sunday's doubles match, when Venus Williams was scheduled to return to competition for the first time since the opening round of the U.S.
Kvitova rallies, Czechs top Germany 4-1 (AP)
Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova rallied to beat Germany's Sabine Lisicki on Sunday, sending defending champion Czech Republic into the semifinals of the Fed Cup. Tomas Berdych won his seventh career title Sunday, beating defending champion Gael Monfils 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the Open Sud de France final. The top-seeded Czech broke for a 5-3 lead in the final set on a double fault from Monfils. He wrapped it up with his 12th ace. "It was very close in the end. I'm happy that I was able to do it," Berdych told Canal Plus television.
Youzhny tops Lacko to win Zagreb Indoors (AP)
Mikhail Youzhny beat Lukas Lacko 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday to win the Zagreb Indoors in his 18th career final. It was the first title for the 29-year-old Russian since St. Petersburg in 2010. Former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone rallied to beat 89th-ranked Kateryna Bondarenko 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-4 Sunday, but Sara Errani retired midway through her match with Lesia Tsurenko to leave Italy tied at 2 with Ukraine in the first round of the Fed Cup. Errani retired with a right knee problem while trailing 6-1, 3-0 against the 121st-ranked Tsurenko.
Serbia rallies to beat Belgium 3-2 (AP)
Serbia relied on its second-string players to come from behind to beat Belgium 3-2 on Sunday and reach the semifinals of the Fed Cup. Facing elimination, Bojana Jovanovski beat Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 6-2, 6-4 to level the score at 2-2. Jovanovski then teamed with Aleksandra Krunic to beat Yanina Wickmayer and Alison Van Uytvanck in the deciding doubles, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-1.
