Mali beats Gabon on penalties to make semifinals (AP)
Mali beat co-host Gabon 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Sunday to reach the African Cup of Nations semifinals. Gabon's hero from the group stage, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, missed his team's fourth spot kick to allow Seydou Keita to score the decisive penalty and send Mali through. The teams had earlier finished at 1-1 after extra time.
Cologne wins, Bremen draws again in Bundesliga (AP)
Cologne ended its three-game losing streak with its first victory over Kaiserslautern for more than 22 years on Sunday, Odise Roshi scoring not long after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win in the Bundesliga. Roshi headed a corner past Kevin Trapp in the 72nd minute, having earned the set piece by drawing a save from the goalkeeper with his first touch of the ball a minute before.

Villarreal beats Sevilla 2-1 in Spanish league (AP)
Villarreal won its first away match of the season season by beating Sevilla 2-1 on Sunday from Javier Camunas' late goal, exacerbating the Andalusian club's struggles in the Spanish league. Sevilla was caught outnumbered on a counterattack, allowing Camunas to bend a shot into the left side of the net for Villarreal's 81st-minute winner at Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
